Harringay Market - just days to go!

Dear HoL-ers

With only days to go I thought I’d just post a little reminder of all the epicurean delights that await you next Sunday 24 June at the inaugural Harringay Market.

Jessica has assembled a collection of stalls that will satisfy your every eating whim; we’re welcoming stalls selling food as varied as Sri Lankan and Brazilian, Italian and Japanese, as well as some pretty brilliant produce traders including Mersham Shoot, Perry Court Farm, Fratelli Formaggio and Wood Green’s very own Celtic Bakers.

I know you’ve all been glued to our site so you’re already totally au fait with our traders but of the countless highlights I’d like to draw your collective attention to...

Spit&Roast – their Southern-style chicken is one of the tastes of the Summer, according to ES magazine [**amendment, sadly due to unforseen circumstances Spit&Roast won't be at the market on Sunday; big sorry to all fans of fried chicken - will keep you updated if anything changes]
A Taste of Sri Lanka – vegetarian and meat Tamil-inspired curries from the Messies family
Lecker Schmecker – delicious and innovative German cuisine prepared by locals Sally and Heather
Alley Kat-Su - Gary Whitehead cooks up a storm with freshly-made Japanese katsu curry
Burger Bear – market newbie Tom creates amazing burgers with ingredients sourced entirely from London’s environs
Narcissus Design – Nick and Sam (you might know them from the Salisbury) will be selling a selection of their super-cool designs
Opera Ice Cream – Harringay-ites Kerry and Spasko serve up their (very) locally-made lemonade, trad puddings and of course, delicious ice cream

It goes without saying that we really need your support – get fed, watered, meet your neighbours and help put Harringay on the foodie map. What more could you want on a lazy Sunday?

I am so there. I intend to starve myself Saturday and do a double spin class on Sunday morning to create a big enough calorie deficit ,in order to sample something from all the stalls.

Regional Italian delicacies including the best cannoli and Italian style hot chocolate in London. The savouries are pretty damn good too!

A goodwill message to the market from New York:

Hello Hugh,

Greetings from New York where we have a heat wave, the only escape from which was to spend the day not shopping in Macy's.

I wanted to send a message about the new Harringay market, but knowing nothing about sci-fi or TV doctors I am precluded*.

Here's the message:

Congratulations to the people who have set up this market, which is incredibly hard work. I hope it will be weekly and that it will be a success. Thank you for not calling it a farmers' market. So glad you have Perry Court Farm. They are lovely people. Did you know that they refused to go along with instructions from the EU many years ago to rip out all but a few apple varieties, retaining a field of about a hundred different ones? Martin used to bring a collection of them on Apple Day to Islington Farmers' Market (of which I was manager). People were so interested, making notes etc. he couldn't decide at what moment they could be sold. My favourites were Pitmaston Pineapples - cute little russets that taste of pineapple. We had some at Haringey's Apple Day in 2009.

I live in New York now, but stay interested in Haringey. Having campaigned unsuccessfully for twelve years for a real farmers' market in Crouch End, I notice the Council shutting down Budgens stalls. It's very odd.
