Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

OUT: Cllrs Lorna Reith & Dilek Dogus, UP: Cllr Bernice Vanier, IN: Cllrs Ann Waters & Richard Wilson
NEARLY: Almost in the cabinet but not quite, Stroud Green's Lib Dem name-matched Cllr Richard Wilson

You may not know it, but
Haringey Council is run through a cabinet system, similar in conception to that of the national government's.

Without speculating as to what lies behind them, recent departures  from the cabinet have occasioned a reshuffle at Haringey’s top table.

Councillor Lorna Reith stepped down from her role as deputy leader and member for children and Dilek Dogus as
Cabinet member for Health and Adult Services.

Councillors Richard Watson and Ann Waters were announced as the replacements.

Cllr Bernice Vanier has moved from her role as Cabinet Member foR Communities to a new role as Deputy Leader and member for Health and Adult Services.

Woodside councillor, Ann Waters is the new cabinet member for Children - and Tottenham Green councillor Richard Watson is the new cabinet member for Communities.

Here's what the Haringey Cabinet looks like now:

Leaderof the Council – Cllr Claire Kober

Deputy leader and cabinet member for
Health and Adult Services– Cllr Bernice Vanier

Cabinet member for
 Children– Cllr Ann Waters

Cabinet member for
Housing– Cllr John Bevan

Cabinet member for the
 Environment– Cllr Nilgun Canver

Cabinet member for
Finance and Carbon Reduction– Cllr Joe Goldberg

Cabinet member for
Economic Development and Social Inclusion– Cllr Alan Strickland

Cabinet member for
Communities– Cllr Richard Watson

A couple of people asked me about this shift round. So can I add that - with a single exception - the selection of "cabinet" councillors is almost entirely the prerogative of the Council Leader, Claire Kober. She both selects the individuals and allocates their portfolios. Claire Kober herself is elected for four years. The exception is that the Labour Group did vote for the Deputy leader.

Apart from the posts listed by Hugh, another change - in my view unequivocally positive - is that the Labour Group nominated Cllr Reg Rice to chair the Council's Scrutiny Committee in place of Cllr Bull.

No need for speculation, Hugh. The lookers are out. No rivals tolerated.
