Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Join the "Big Bike Ride" from Haringey this Saturday [CORRECTED]

The London Cycling Campaign have organised the Big Bike Ride this Saturday. The purpose of the event is to call for safer streets for all road users, ahead of the Mayoral elections.

The ride will take place on closed off streets and this is the advice:

  • Come on bike, foot, skates or rollerblades
  • Dress yourself up and your bike in red & white campaign colours
  • Make some noise: drums, whistles, cowbells, sound systems, etc

The ride starts at 11am on Park Lane and will finish by 2pm at Blackfriars Bridge - here is a map of the route.

There are two rides leading from Haringey, at 9.30am there is a group meeting at Ducketts Common opposite Turnpike Lane tube station

There is also Critical Mass on Friday night. The London Mass meets at 6.00pm on the last Friday of every month on the South Bank under Waterloo Bridge, by the National Film Theatre.

Critical Mass achieved its international name following the first ever ride in San Francisco back in 1992, where it was christened 'Commute Clot'. It was then "noted that, in China both motorists and bicyclists had an understood method of negotiating intersections without signals. Traffic would "bunch up" at these intersections until the back log reached a "critical mass" at which point that mass would move through the intersection". Film 'Return of the Scorcher' also features the scene which led to the adoption of the name "Critical Mass" for the rides which now occur around the world.

Hi, I'm planning on joining this, but it looks like the Green Lens Studios event is on Sunday, not Saturday. Thanks, Sasha
