This was a project that I started around about a year ago.
I was on the Parkland Walk and thought that it would be nice to photograph the tunnels at the Highgate end.
So, I set up my camera on a tripod at the tunnels and took 11 shots of each tunnel.
Each shot ranged form -5 (under exposed) to +5 (over exposed). Once that was done, I fused the images together using Photomatix to create the first set of two pictures showing the tunnels 'lit up'.
Having done that, I then put the two processed photos into Photoshop with one of the under exposed shots of the back of the tunnel. I then cut a whole in the end of the shot and inserted the end shot to make them appear clearer.
My next step was to import the photos to Aperture where I applied some enhancements and the sharpen tool.
Finally, I put both images side by side in Fireworks and created the image you see before you.
In all, about 5 hours of work, but I think you will agree that the end result was worth the effort.

I have lived here for 25 years and didn't even see these tunnels. Thank you. brilliant
Thank you!
They are at the Highgate end of the Parkland Walk. Its the bit where you have to go out on to the road to carry on to Ally Pally.
The tunnels lead through to Highgate high level station, which was one of the stations on the line from Finsbury Park to Edgware. The reason you cannot go through them is that the derelict station at the other end is not safe. It always seemed a pity to me that the work has never been done to allow people to get to Highgate tube station through the tunnels as it would increase the usefulness of the Parkland Walk as a car free access route to the tube...
I went on this walk recently, all the way from Stapleton Hall Road up to Highgate. I've always wanted to see Highgate high level station close up. When I had a look from the steep path that runs alongside, I noticed the gate was unlocked and quickly went in to take a few photos. You can check them out here:

Very atmospheric photos - quite sad too. Nice work.
