Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Exclusive new members club to capture the unserved higher-end of the Harringay market

In what is probably the most audacious and ridiculous planning application of the year to date, we seen another 'traditional Turkish coffee house' being proposed.

The licensing application for booze and music has already been made, and now the after-thought of planning permission is being addressed (needless to say, the two agencies do not communicate with each other).

This members only club will be located behind 63 Grand Parade and face directly onto the back gardens of two of the Gardens streets. Access is to be gained via the driveway behind Brian Thomas estate agents. I would anticipate a significant increase in the number of shouty, posturing idiots who already populate this area late at night.

I note that when responding to applications it is made clear by the authorities that vexatious responses will not be tolerated... but what recourse do we have to stop the vexatious applications?

Surely the 'entrepreneurs' making the current application should be asked to compensate both the council and the local community for the resource they waste with such an ill-conceived, flawed and moronic application.

Consultation Response No.2 from the link above brings a smile. It is from the landlord of the property suggesting that the tenants do not have permission to change the use of the premises.

I hope some of you will find the time to help see-off these miscreants.

Is this where the Erenler restaurant used to be - one of the first (and one of the best) Turkish Ocakbasi restaurants on GL?

The legitimacy of this venture aside, it does make you wonder who, with a few Lira to invest, would have taken a considered look up and down Green Lanes and decided that what this area is screaming out for is a Turkish coffee house. Don't they realise that what we clearly do need round here is another kebab place, or maybe a 'couture' (ahem) shop selling frocks that an 1980's drag queen would have considered garish. My personal favourite emporium though is the pound shop that proclaims, on its lovely plastic signage, that all its stock is '£1 or plus'......More pound shops! More shops selling massive sacks of walnuts! More chunky gold! Ho ho....
