Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi folks, as there doesn't seem to be anywhere in the neighborhood to meet any of the other LGBT locals, my partner Joe and I have been thinking about doing a low key social dinner & drinks evening at our place. Not sure if there would be much interest in this but if so, please drop me a line.

Would be great to get a weekly or monthly get-together going.

Any ideas or suggestions also welcome.

Cheers,

Cristo

We had a go at this last year/s, initiated by Justin H. - HarinGAY met monthly in various cafe-bars on a Saturday morning. It seems to have fizzled out but I reckon the demand is still there.

If no-one else minds you can have the name and blog: http://haringaaay.wordpress.com/

This being LGBT History Month is a good time to do a start-up.

Thanks for your message Pamish,

Yes I've seen Justin's post and have sent him a message.  I think so too that there would be interest and I've already had a quite a few people inbox me saying that it would make a nice difference doing dinner parties at home as opposed to bars etc..

Sound like a good idea
Years ago when I was a student, we had a meeting in Wareham Road,on fireworks night which was rather good.

Hi Veggie, I'll keep you posted as things progress but so far so good!

Hi Chris

Thanks for adding me as a friend. This sounds like a great idea. Since moving to Harringay a year and a half ago with my boyfriend we hardly go into the city for big nights out and something like this sounds right up my street (no pun intended!). Plus its a way of getting to know people in the area. We wouldn't be able to host anything in our tiny flat as there just isn't the room, but even if its just arranging a meal at one of the restaurants on Green Lanes would be nice.

To be honest, I don't see much reason for going into the West End when there are already some great places to go around here.  I'm still amazed at the fantastic restaurants on Stroud Green Rd, Blackstock Rd and a few other  and bars such as the Faltering Fall Back. All it needs now is a a decent venue or social evening for the gay community in the area, hence my suggestion of a frequent evening out that doesn't revolve bars.  I for one am a bit bored of all that and find social dinner evenings much nicer.

Hi Cris.

I am always surprised by the lack of a gay scene here in Haringey. There are so many of us - it's like Peter Jones on a Saturday afternoon or Wimbeldon ladies final day. I think the problem is that most of us are more interested in getting home in time for master chef than cooking up a big night out.

haha Leave the cooking to us boys then, we love to cook and often have dinner parties for 15 people so not a big deal for us!

would be interested as well

Thanks for the friend add Walter - count yourself in! The response has been very good so far and lots more in my inbox.

So, I've pencilled something down for Saturday, 25th February...let me know who is around that evening and I'll put a game plan in motion!
