Living in Dongola Road I had seen quite a few car windows having been smashed in around Xmas/New Year, and yesterday it happened to mine.
They went for the GPS in the glove compartment. I was recommended by the glass repair chap to leave glove compartment empty and open, so they can see there's nothing to take, and to remove GPS windscreen suction holder and also to clear ring mark where it sticks on.
Cheers

It's happening a lot on Lyttleton Road too, and in neighbouring Burghley Road and Vernon Road.
Same story - smash window, hunt for GPS and then off.
Mine has been broken into twice - first time they took the GPS, next time, nothing.
I know of two cars done on Lausanne Rd on Christmas night. The prices the glazier was quoting on Boxing day I just assumed it was him. Nothing was taken.
hah.
had a bit of worry I wouldn't be covered as don't have comprehensive insurance (really expensive in N17) but because it was a theft (of the GPS) they cover the window breakage.
phew!

This used to happen all the time with car radios, but obviously there is no second-hand market for them anymore, or they are somehow disabled. Perhaps the same will have to happen with satnavs. It never occurred to me to claim on the insurance when it happened to me (at least three times I can remember), also at the time the police were never very interested so I stopped reporting it.
