He was immortalised by children's author Roald Dahl, and brought to life on screen by the inimitable Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp. Now, Thornton's Budgens are holding auditions to find a new Willy Wonka for north London.
We are on the hunt for an actor who has the Wonka factor, for a mystery festive assignation. Interested wannabee Wonkas must attend an open casting on Dec 3rd where they must bring Wonka to life in no more than a minute. A panel will choose the person they think has that special quality.
We want a Willy Wonka who has oodles of charm, a skip in his step, and perhaps slighty unhinged in a mad professor kind of way. Wallflowers need not apply. There is no need to track down Oompa Loompas to take part, nor do you need to provide your own everlasting gobstopper.
Thornton's Budgens Willy Wonka must be available for a number of days paid work in the run up to Christmas.
Those who think they fit the bill should email al@thorntonsbudgens.com to express their interest, and come to the Crouch End store at 2pm prompt on Dec 3rd.
Andrew Thornton, Nov 24th 2011.
