Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I presume everyone has received one of these today - a four-page colour printed thing which asks for our solutions to the problems of Tottenham. Although always glad to feel that councils want to listen to their constituents, I have a few problems with this one.

1)It looks expensively produced (although not glossy paper), and given the cuts to basic services (which must surely be contributing to the areas difficulties), I wonder where the money is coming from to fund both this document and the consultation process behind it.

2) It asks for ideas about regenerating Tottenham - does that include us in Harringay as well (as it always seems to at election time), or are we supposed to offer ideas specific to Tottenham, an area which I cannot say I particularly know?

3)It's really very difficult to think of what to suggest and I bet most people will end up throwing it away. More social equality, better funded education, a stable economy...all these are big political issues not just local council ones. Youth services have been cut 75% - if I put that I think that's a bad idea will they change their spending plans? I doubt it. I don't want to sound defeatist but I can't imagine what they are expecting us to say.

My thoughts, precisely, Maddy. It clearly relates to the four specified areas of Tottenham 'district' for obvious reasons - yet they want to give the rest of us the probably expensive impression that we too are close to the Leader's heart. 'Defeatism' in the face of Haringey consultation is often a virtue.

And yes, I'm an old enough Irish ethnic with private disabilities, pet gripes but no cats, and an encrypted post code that not even the postman can decipher.
