I hope people advertising commercial services make a contribution to the running costs of HOL ?
Agree, John. It all seems just a mite narcissistic to me, but maybe 25% of sale prices achieved would render it less so.
Sorry guys didnt mean to offend thought this was a website advertising what is available in the local area, We are a young couple local to the area trying to start up a business with very limited funds. We thought this would be a good place to show what we are doing and that people may have an interest in what unusual items are being made in their area. If it is against the rules of the website then we will gladly remove the post.
There is a group on this site called Find a Harringay Home, should everyone looking for a flatmate, lodger or someone to rent their house also give money to HOL? .
I've tried to flog some stuff on this site it 3 pine doors and a flat to rent, as have many others.
What about the local plumbers, maths tutors and artists etc who advertise themselves should they pay?
I don't think so...
Perhaps so as not to offend anyone there should be a for sale group? But until then, come on John and OAE give 'em break. Its a recession they're a small local business. We need to give these fine people as much help as possible. Put more of you enviable energy into getting Hawes and Curtis off our bridge
Well, TW, during the recent unpleasantness/disturbances/free shopping, I did invite the freeshoppers over to take Caws & Hurtus apart. I was threatened with having my collar felt for encouraging looting via a social website. Much earlier I did suggest, I think, EstateAgents' Commission x2 or 3 as a HOL contribution from any successful house vendors in the FaHH group. As for the Bridge Banner, I think I've already expectorated all the phlegm or flem I want to on that item.
Nick, I'm just a nobody representing nobody. Admin may or may not have a view.
Dear OAE you are not a nobody. You are OAE a legend, dare I say it, of the Harringay heights who's many many opinions represent many many men, women and children of this fair village. Never forget that my good man!
There has been a for sale category for quite some time.
Hear hear pete
Confused? Have you checked out our policy? Please have a read and tell me what's not clear and I'll be happy to clarify. The only Yoga classes promoted on HoL make a generous contribution to our running costs. Anyone who does so is welcome to advertise their business. I don't think that's unreasonable. Liz and I give our time for nowt. If someone is going to make money using the site I think a contribution to running costs is not unreasonable, is it?
The reason we have the policy is twofold. Firstly to control the number of ads (and as I've said below, believe me if you knew how may people want to advertise, you 'd want a policy too). Secondly to defray costs.
hear hear Hugh!
Shame on you Pete
Go to bed TW
