Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Not local this, but surely a London institution - Gaby's Deli on Charing Cross road, one of the last decent independent low-priced places to eat in the West End. I have been going there since the early 70's, and it's older still.

Westminster Council have just granted planning permission for redevelopment of the site, forcing Gaby's out of business and replacing it with some chain restaurant.

There's a Facebook campaign afoot to persuade the developers to keep this much-loved restaurant alive.https://www.facebook.com/save.gabys.deli?ref=ts

Gaby's is lovely, I have even been known to blog about their pepperpots

Shame on those who would rip it down for another McJoint.

Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention - this is definitely a great London institution - a place where I have arranged to meet friends in town since I was a teenager (am now 54) - it is an OMG moment for me. I love it because a) it is so easy to get to b) you can have just a cup of tea or a full meal so no pressure to  spend loads c) make the best salt-beef sandwich d) make great fresh carrot/apple juice e) great for vegetarians and people who have dietary restrictions  ......I could go on but I am now straight to the Facebook site. Thank you very much again - it would be tragic to loose this 'pearl' of a place.

I haven't been to Gaby's for years, but it was a regular hangout back in the eighties and ninetes and I'd be very sad to know it wasn't still there! Very good falafel and latkes.
