Brilliant, just what we need, a march ending up on Tottenham Green on Saturday afternoon. Nice idea but having seen what happened at the peace vigil on Monday evening, I doubt it will end peacefully.

I've also seen loads of photocopied (ie not done by SW Litho) posters all over the place with a peace sign, someone has spent ages sellotaping them up. And there are many torn remnants of those SWP posters.
This march seems to be trying to do the opposite of the SWP while looking for a Political Explanation. But I don't think they can know how many very edgy people there are around here.
It has a Facebook event page, and here's a comment from an attendee:
"This is what I've been wanting to see. We need to start to direct the anger seen on the streets and link that with the student and trade union struggle. Its clear that people aren't going to sit back anymore, lets join these fights and take on this government and the police together."
Doesn't bode well at all.
The SWP is infamous for hijacking any march, protest or gathering for their own purposes. They know the value of loudhailers and huge banners. They have no shame and less credibility. On the other hand, their candidates on hustings have the virtue of consistency: it's predictable Marxist stuff.
For these deluded individuals, the irony ought to be that the post war Soviet state would have dealt with the kind of insurrection we've seen by the immediate shooting of the perpetrators.
They've just replied to my facebook worries thus:
Glyn wrote "all the organisers live in the area and many have kids here too. we are entirely aware of the dangers and discussed them long and hard and do not think it at all likely to end as you suggest. :)"
I hope they are right.
I really dont' see how they can be so convinced that their actions won't result in a repeat of recent events, a lot of the people involved are just looking for an excuse. It seems incredibly naive of them.
