Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Just heard from a friend on Facebook that Palmers Green, Southgate, Winchmore Hill and Cockfosters are apparently likely to be targeted again. Shops, local businesses and banks in the area have been told to close early by the police and they want people out of the areas by 4pm! Not sure how true this is, but my friend's husband asked at the bank and was told they were all under advice to close. Apparently 21 on the Green was targeted today during daylight hours.

Sorry, guys, but it looks like we need to prepare for another night of madness.

Aren't they all in Helmand Province or somewhere?  Now if we only had a couple of aircraft carriers we could run them up the Lea and New River.

The only way the police could have stopped the looting in Tottnm Hale on Saturday night would have been to turn up in an armoured car.  Even several van loads of them would have been torched, unless they have some hidden tactics on how to drive up to a big looting crowd without getting hurt.

I don't think it will be long before tear gas + water-hoses get deployed. Then rubber bullets. They just don't have the numbers, plus soon they will need to sleep.

PS 'Mindless' keeps getting used, but that's wrong. It's all very mindful.

Police chappy has just said on the news that they don't have water cannon - they'd have to get them over from N. Ireland, which wouldn't be quick enough.
Perhaps we can borrow them from Paris. I think they used them when the banlieus were rioting a couple of years ago and Sarkozy made some comment about using them as power hoses to wash the scum away.

"if this goes on much longer, consideration should perhaps be given to brining in the army"

Be careful what you wish for.

I can't see the army as being the solution to the current problems.

No, no. We can't let IIPara or Marines 45Commando with power hoses, CS gas or "baton rounds" (plastic/rubber bullets) loose on our British Mainland streets. Those things are just for real scum in our colonies. Leave the water cannon in NI in case Fenians get stroppy again.

Agreed.

I don't want to be in a car in Green Lanes sandwiched between 2 Sarcens with guns pointing at me.  That always scared the living daylights out of me.

Ah BBL, thanks for the backup. Do you think we should give these HOL folk a sort of masterclass in living with uncertainty in border regions? Seems to me after just three nights they're all in a flap with alarm and excitement. A bit like Malone Road people afraid the Falls or Ardoyne may spill over to them and affect their property prices. Or even Bundoran afraid that a spot of bother in Fermanagh may affect the tourist takings!
I don't personally, but you could try making intelligent and constructive comments.
Paulie dear, we wouldn't expect you to understand. Some, however, with historical perspective above and beyond these narrow little confines, may find these comments both intelligent and constructive.
Possibly. I seriously doubt it however that wry talk of scum in the colonies and Fenians either enlightens or amuses anyone else but yourself, or that those feeling unsettled or even frightened by what has happened to their community since the weekend will feel encouraged or reassured by your words of wisdom. I may of course be wrong.

It feels like reading an extended version of the Stephen Nolan show in July.

I listened this morning and it was quite interesting to hear N. I. reaction to the rioting.  It's also the 40th anniversary of internment which was also instructive.
