Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

New data suggests that men are having a rough time in Haringey.

The latest borough data released by the GLA is worth taking a few minutes over. It's readily available online and very accessible. By clicking on our borough on the London map at the centre of the data website and then clicking through the data sets of the left of the screen you get our ranking in London and a little information on each area.

One thing that struck me is how poorly the borough ranks on key. The state of play for women isn't always rosy, but for men it seems often dire.

Take life expectancy in Haringey. For women it's above average in London. For men it's well in to the lowest quartile.

Things seem particularly dire for male employment. Whilst the female rate is little to celebrate, that for men ranks as the lowest in London.

Other data shows that our house prices are about average for London. We're, surprisingly, below average on the amount of green space we have and also on the number of cars per household.

Of none of this data reflects the terrible disparities between the east and west of the borough.

Browse the data for yourself at the GLA website.

Cleaned out the fridge. Now for the oven :-(

And all because a woman is coming to stay.

What about education? We are the bottom borough for 5 A-Cs at GCSE.....
to add insult to injury it seems the men of Haringey also earn less than the women!
The worst score for 'deprivation'. Says it all really.
I can't leave this thing alone! Under demographics, Largest Migrant Population by country of birth. Fascinating. Nigeria, India and Jamaica feature strongly but three boroughs have USA as their largest immigrant group.
Let me guess what they might be.. Camden, Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea?

Something like that, though there are a couple around there with France too.....
