Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Dangerous stray cat

 

This cat has been coming into our garden and house for a long time now (we have seven cats of our own) but was becoming a pest, spaying everywhere etc.. So we decided to post his picture to see if he belonged to anyone local. No one has claimed him so we decided to catch him and hand him in to the RSPCA.

 

However, two days ago my husband, Andy tried to pick him up and was severely bitten and scratched. Going straight to A&E with a constantly bleeding hand, Andy was put on a drip of antibiotics and strong painkillers. He has been in hospital since and is now waiting for an operation as the infection has spread.

 

This cat is dangerous, DO NOT TRY and touch him. The RSPCA cannot try to catch him until Tuesday as they say they do not have any space for another cat. Feral cats can look harmless but they are not. Beware of them around children or fighting with your cats as cat bites can be extremely harmful.

There are special catch cages that are used to trap cats. They take some preparation, as the cat has to be lured in, then the door pulled shut from a distance with a string. Maybe there is now one that works on an iPad, my knowledge is 30 years old (eeargh). But I caught the main  one-queen feral-cat production line from our garden in Mildmay - the cage was on loan from SNIPS - the Society for Neutering Islington's Pussies.  I am resisting ever again becoming the dotty cat woman, it's just too time-consuming standing around for hours with a bit of string in your hand...

Thanks. Yes apparently the RSPCA now have one that automatically shuts behind them when they walk over a lever. They will hopefully come round to demonstrate how it works and set it up on Tuesday.

Gosh I hope your husband is ok. Cat bites are really severe - often people don't realise how bad the infections can be from cat bites (including GPs!).

Perhaps phone www.celiahammond.org to see if someone can collect the cat sooner than the RSPCA? Her team is pretty good at catching them.

Update:

We have now captured this cat and the RSPCA have taken it away this morning. They will treat it and then if it is unable to be rehomed they will send it to a farm.
