Huge New School Taking Shape on Harringay's Borders
Hackney Borough's Skinners' Academy school is taking place on our doorstep, just the other side of the New River.
The mixed non-denomination school for 1,150 pupils between ages 11 and 18 is due to open on 1st September.
We all missed the Consultation (link to external pdf), run by Hackney at the start of 2008, I imagine because it wasn't directed beyond Hackney's borders.
Big innit.

Hugh, you might want to have a look at Michael Edwards' blog entry here.. As usual he has a helpfully critical take on planning and linked issues.
I once wrote to Professor Edwards suggesting he consider making a video with his comments on-site at some of the locations where he has very interesting things to say. He answered that he lacks the video skills.
But HoL has them ;-#

Those pictures do not show the amount of space they have set aside for car parking for the staff who drive in from Hertfordshire.

Well there's lots of change going on for this old school moving from Northfield Rd Stamford Hill to the Manor House area and changing from a girls school to mixed. The boys school is still out in Tunbridge Wells.
Seems Hackney/the government dealt with that borough's education service challenges by transferring all schools to The Learning Trust, the UK's first private, and importantly, not-for profit company to take over the responsibility of running all education services for an entire borough. Since then education spending from the govt has gone up massively for Hackney and shows encouraging results according to recent news comment.
Like these photos comparing old with new for the current school. Guess the old building will be turned into apartments to help pay for the new site.

The Tunbridge Wells boys school is not connected to this Skinners Academy apart from being sponsored by the Skinners Foundation- they will be completely separate.
I know some people who speak highly of The Skinners Girls School so assuming they manage to carry that success over the the new school, it must be good news for those on the southern part of the ladder with children approaching secondary school age.

Are there any plans to build a foot-bridge over the New River to allow easier access from Eade Road in Southern Harringay, otherwise it won't be a particularly green choice?

Note that this school has been open since the autumn, and was officially opened on 12th April - see coverage in the Hackney Independent.
The Schools also has its own website - http://www.skinnersacademy.org.uk/
It will be interesting to see how it develops!
