Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

HoL has learned of a campaign to keep Hornsey library open on Sundays. Apparently there's a form you can fill out available from libraries.

Anyone know anything more? Wot no online form?

The text pasted in below is the essence of a questionnaire attached to the bottom of the http://www.haringey.gov.uk/data/libraries page. I have attached the first five questions only - the remaining 6 relate to monitoring.

The closing date for responses is 12th April 2011

The complete document is attached to the libraries page, should you wish to download it, complete it and return it

Haringey Libraries Sunday Opening Hours Survey

As the libraries budget is being reduced, we will have fewer staff to work in our libraries at weekends and less money to spend on library stock.

At present, we are proposing to close Hornsey, Marcus Garvey and Alexandra Park libraries on Sundays and would like to know whether this will have an impact on your ability to access libraries in the Borough. Wood Green Central Library will continue to open on Sundays.

We would also like to find out what you use libraries for and the type of items you like to borrow.

The questionnaire is available at all libraries and on the Libraries website. The closing date for responses is 12thApril 2011.

Please tick the appropriate box.

2. If only Wood Green Library remains open on Sundays, what impact will this have on your library use?

not exactly a campaign to keep them open........just more spin so we can say we consulted like the infamous cuts consultation. We can hardly keep open day to day now before losing even more staff soon!!!!

The way the form is set up doesn't exactly encourage us to participate does it? I've just spent ages filling in all the questions but it doesn't say on the form where the council wants us to send it. Have to go back to the web page to find that... *sigh*
I, of all people, understand the frustration with local consultations, but it's perhaps also worth giving pause for thought (celebration?) that our library service has survived as intact as it has. My guess is that if there's a big outpouring of protest in response to this particular consultation, there's a real chance of the Sunday changes being kept at bay. But people gotta give voice. Fill in the form and return it to library.service@haringey.gov.uk

Sorry Hugh, wasn't moaning about your post. I followed Lee's link to the Council website, tracked down the form. The council's library page is a labyrinth. Anyone would think they didn't want to hear from us. All the more reason to show our libraries some love!

Ah, Ok thanks I'd missed that form buried away at the bottom of the page there - direct link here.

I'll see if I can get a return address.

Okay, completed forms should be returned to library.service@haringey.gov.uk
I'm having trouble getting it to fill in online. The only option seems to be to print it out and post, or go into the library tomorrow before the closing date. I don't think this has exactly been a fair consultation, and as someone pointed out on OpionioN8, it asks all sorts of questions which aren't directly related to Sunday opening, but seem to be about consulting on general library use.
