Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

'Harringay roads layout to be redesigned'

The council has announced at a meeting last night that a one option decides all consultation was carried out last month to finally decide a new layout for Harringay roads. The council said it fully understands peoples concerns re heavy traffic using the main roads and ladder roads as cut throughs.

The plans put forward by Hadit & Co consultants involve 'buses only' going south from 7am - 10am along Green Lanes and again 'buses only' going north in the evening. All other traffic during these times to be diverted via Crouch End Broadway. The Broadway may need to be widened but this will need to go out to wider consultation. However a local councillor is said to be up in arms about this and may resign if the plans are pushed through.

A wider cycle lane is planned for Green Lanes and a Streetcar byway has been mentioned, although this may fall by the wayside as it would need City Hall/TfL approval. The pavements along the Grand Parade could be widened, seating and planted areas dotted along the Parade, with CCTV planned for litter louts, particularly near the 'chicken shacks', according to the consultants report being released this month.

As to the ladder roads, the council is hoping to make them 'access only' ,but only if residents are happy with this. The council hope to have more news soon.

Ha ha, great!
Oh if only it were true!
No fools on Wightman, Osbawn.
You don't quite have have whole story here, Matt. An option, rather than making all Ladder roads 'access only' will be to open them and the Gardens Roads as part of the borough's planned east-west corridor super-highway. However, the Haringey traffic supremo is being pretty tight-lipped about how this would be implemented.
Someone did mention something about the east-west superhighway. Think it was to do with linking the planned waste dump over in Muswell 'ill with the Tottenham Hale industrial estates corridor in the east. But to be honest I think I was tucking into the free sandwiches at that time (supplied by a councillor's grandmother because of the recent cuts to refreshments budget).
Thanks for posting this matt - It doesn't look like a solution, it's just moving the problem elsewhere.

How about a ban on school runs? Pay per meter system; the further you drive the less you pay.

Hugh - I was on my way home the other night and was stuck on the bus for 15 minutes while we slowly rolled along Green Lanes and I could see the road after the Salisbury was empty. I blame the plethora of traffic lights with stupid timings.

I blame the tradition of April Fools!

But almost believeable none the less :)

aha good one!

Should have been the give away really!

Or Hadit & Co .... possibly :)

But definitely ... diverted via Crouch End. Imagine the uproar! Petitions would have been on fire with indignation.
