Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Around 150 HoL members, including myself, hail from N17. We're outside the site's catchment area, are the other 49 also suffering from 'site envy'?

I'd love to see something like this for my local area, but would there be enough interest locally to make it 'fly'? And how should a membership area be defined? (I'd thought of sticking to the council-defined Bruce Grove and West Green neighbourhood forum 'marriage' - should the catchment area be wider?)

What do others think?

A lot of interest, thanks for all replies.  I didn't know about 'In Tottenham' for example.  Really dont want to go into competition with other sites, I'd just like to see a site like HoL bringing us all together.  I dont think Hugh, Liz and others looking after HoL really want to expand to cover wider area, but can anyone tell me more about 'In Tottenham?'.  I'll phone the number on their 'contact us' page to.  Great to hear your enthusiastic input, Steve Hatch. Digesting all these points and taking advice from HoL at the moment.

It's not competition Gina. It's a completely different thing.

In answer to your questions I can confirm the following;

The website is an initiative of the Marketing Tottenham Partnership. The partnership is led by the private sector and set up to promote Tottenham as a visitor destination and to increase footfall for local businesses.

The council are making no financial contribution to the website. However an officer from the Business and Enterprise team sits on the Marketing Tottenham steering group and contributes approximately five hours of time a month to work focused on promoting the area, including website development.

The poster ads in Tottenham Hale are paid for by Newlon Housing Association and Newlon have advised us that they own the site location. Newlon are a member of The Marketing Tottenham Partnership and have provided this advertising free of charge.

The website deisgners say on their website:

They also offer a pdf about the site which offers:

Guess building the social bit proved too expensive, too difficult...or perhaps they realised that a social network just wouldn't work on a site like theirs. It needs a you, Gina.

i recently moved from n8 to n15 why is west green and bruce grove not included on this site. Its better if we could just merge them all into one big, better and more active forum
It's mainly because it's a neighbourhood site, Kay. If it covers too big an area it kinda loses its point.
i  only joined because i thought haringey as in haringey the borough, still going to keep using it though. Its useful!
