Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

So from their new website and recent social networking activity, the Prince is under new management and is trying to promote its self as a 'welcoming, diverse pub" and enticing us with the offering of Thai food, Shisha and Live music. I am yet to be convinced judging on the clientele, but I popped in last Friday night to grab a some cigarettes from the machine and was welcomed by 20 youths sitting outside smoking weed. The atmosphere inside wasn't much better. Its a real shame as after living close by for over 2 years I would love to call it my local, I just don't think that will ever happen.

Anyone else recently been there and have anything positive to report back?

I see you've also reviewed this pub on Beer in the Evening

I went by this pub a couple of months ago. At the time I thought the building and interior looked inviting but wasn't sure about the rest. Massive Sky Sports banner outside never a good sign :)

They always have the TV on which I think is one of the biggest crimes that a pub can commit unless of course its a crucial game of football or rugby!

Your right, lovely building, inside it isn't shabby but it doesn't feel like a proper pub if that makes sense? I mean they don't exactly have a selection of ales or a wine list!

Even worse near us. One of the oldest pubs in Haringey (if not the oldest), The Queens Head, has closed down. Been empty most of this year. Was bought by someone with an address in Cypress but he or she has done diddly squat. Real shame. The heritage police should be onto it or Cam's Big Society bratboys.
Interesting, do you have any details on this? A friend of mine has recently set up own organisation for social entrerprises.. http://mendlondon.blogspot.com/p/about-us.html

Found this post at 'mend' speculating on the Localism Bill's content and talking about the maddening planning process interesting.

On HOL this discussion looks into the pub's current ownership and its history.

A proper pub doesn't have a poncy wine list :-)
When I say 'wine list' I mean having more than one choice of table white or red!

Positives:

-The Thai-style food is fresh and good value, and arrives quickly, cooked and served by a friendly lady.

- Makes a great after-choir socialising place for the Bowes Park Community Choir from 9pm on a Thursday (but that's partly because apart from the choir, the place is practically deserted, so there is room for us to gather, which if the pub was more successful there wouldn't be).

- Attractive building, and not bad inside

- The tables outside in the front are lovely if we ever get a summer - real village green feel

Negatives:

- No real ale (even something in bottles would be good)

- Huge distracting telly always on

This is my nearest pub, so wish it would become better.  The best way to enjoy it would be to take a group of friends with you and be your own crowd.
