Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Does anyone know how we might push along the repair of the rising bollards which block the end of Warwick Gardens off from St Anne's Road? It's not unusual for them to be broken (presumably by people trying to tailgate through), but they're usually repaired pretty quickly. To my recollection, they've been out for a few weeks now and, as a Stanhope Gardens resident, I'm noticing a steadily increasing amount of traffic, some of it going pretty fast. This used to be a notorious rat run and I'd hate to go back to those bad old days! I'm not sure where bollard repair is on the list of council priorities in these cash strapped times, but I'd be happy to start the lobby if I knew who to approach...

Well residents of Warham Rd, is the traffic noticeably lighter with this bollard broken?
hi there

i just called the council. apparently the problem was not on their system, i.e. hadn't been reported yet. the person on the phone told me they would send someone out there within the next 24 hours. let's see what happens from there on...
Hi,
I usually report the bollards to Steven.Lain@haringey.gov.uk I must admit that during this latest period of them being down I have NOT reported them.I just assumed someone else would probably do it,so I have given myself a slap on the wrist ! I am also in Stanhope at the Green Lanes end and the increase in traffic is steadily getting worse and the incidents of road rage at the junction are definitly getting louder.. The bollards supposedly have CCTV on them but I have never heard of anyone actually being caught vandalising/ damaging them.
I will be dropping an email to Steve Lain to see what the latest info is.
Thanks John and Anja, that's great! And John, you've prompted me to slap myself on the wrist as well and get on the front foot with reporting the next incident, rather than waiting for someone else to do it!
I heard some vague rumours that it's getting too expensive to keep repairing them because of the persistent levels of vandalism. Apparently the police find it too difficult to look at the CCTV and prosecute the perpetrators... hmm...

Personally I'd be happy to see the bollards replaced with a fixed gate like the one at the end of Cleveland Gardens. I'll take the long route round to keep the traffic down.
Look for 'rising bollards' on YouTube. There's some great stuff.
Dont forget that we are all still paying for the bollards when our cards require changing so the council are getting extra revenue to keep them working. They are the best thing to happen to these streets in many years and we should fight to keep them.(steps down from soap box)
I like that Gardens residents feel comfortable discussing their bollards on here. To me they're like a UFO that landed on one side of the river and granted eternal peace to people on that side and all I can do is sit on my side and envy them wondering if the UFO will come again...
Yes, John Mc, can it be that, just because the Warhamites are lying low, the Garden folk have no idea who the Bollard Busters really are? I thought I noticed less of a flow into Wightman Rd since late September.
Why would anyone wanting to use the gardens as a cut through from Green Lanes to St Ann's rd then use the ladder roads and then on to Wightman rd as an alternative? IMO the only road affected by the closure of the gardens to through traffic is Salisbury rd
The reason that people use the Ladder roads, Simon, is the same as the one they used to use the Gardens; to get to St Ann's Road on the east-west, or vice versa, route, avoiding the traffic of Seven Sisters Road and Green Lanes. Now that Hermitage and the Gardens are closed, people cut up Ladder Roads, travel along Wightman and back down again towards St Ann's or vice-versa.

I have no doubt that traffic was hell in the Gardens before the closure. I acknowledge that it was a problem that needed dealing with, but imagining that the two closures haven't displaced significant amounts traffic on to the Ladder won't solve the local traffic issue.
