Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

We tried the Skillshare thing and it didn't work really. I blame the lousy tech. But I'm sure it's the right thing for us to share and lend more. Right cuz it's neighbourly and right cuz it's green.

So, I'm having another go. I've signed Harringay Online up to Ecomodo.

It's an online service that enables people to lend and borrow each other's everyday objects, skills and spaces. You can do this for free, for a fee or for a good cause. Ecomodo aims to facilitate the transaction to make good returns for all.

This is how Ecomodo set out their stall. They say that their service helps people to:

  • Lend and borrow confidently: Control who can borrow items by joining or creating trusted lending circles.
  • Live a richer life : Gain access to the things needed to follow dreams, pursue interests and do the boring jobs more quickly.
  • Be green : Reduce collective effect on the environment by pooling resources.

  • Do a good turn : Donate proceeds to a favourite good cause or simply help the people around by sharing assets.
  • Make and save money : Earn money by lending the assets already owned. Save hard earned cash by borrowing the things not needed often.

Part of the Ecomodo way of doing things is to interact through trusted circles. So I've set up a Harringay Online circle for sharing and borrowing between HoLers.

And because I'm terribly helpful, I've also made it easy for you to gift any lending charges you choose to make to Harringay Online. (Remember that is to Harringay Online and not me. Any monies go into an account to pay for the costs of running the site. I've even set it up that I can't get my greasy mits on it if I wanted to).

Who's going to be the first Harringaeite to post an item on the circle?

I've just joined this. I think it sounds great. I've been a member of Haringey Freecycle for over a year and I find it invaluable. It's absolutly amazing how easy it is to pass on unwanted stuff to other people that might remain in the cupboard or go to the tip.
Good luck
Great and I see some others have joined too. A good start. I guess the trick now, is whether or not it's useful!
I'm the founder of something called Streetbank.com - it is a little bit like Ecomodo, which is impressive, but also includes a lot of free stuff, stuff that people are willing to give away and skills. Essentially it is a giant attic, garden shed, toolkit, fancy dress chest, library, DVD collection and skills bank for you and anyone living within 1000 yards of your home. It is spreading rapidly - we were featured in the Daily Candy a few days ago and will be in the Evening Standard next week . We will shortly be going to the national press now that the buzz in London has properly taken hold. Anyway, if you're interested you can check it out at www.streetbank.com
As you know Sam we covered your site several months back.

Thanks for being open about your connection this time round ;o)
