I'm no longer a member of any political party. I still regard elections and voting as important. And I've recently noticed that one member of this website posted a mistaken key fact about the May 2026 election. I consider that as citizens we should try to check and correct such facts if possible.
There are two - NOT THREE - Council seats available in some wards. Including St Ann's Ward.
From the Green Party website it appears that Cllr Paton is not standing as a candidate in May.
I regard it as a fact that The Greens rightly judge Climate Change is one of the major threats to our planet.

Agree. i'm no longer a member of any political party and I don't agree with all the Green's policies. However, climate ought to be the big issue, if not the biggest issue.
Last election, local New Labour's slogan was a fairer and greener Borough, but like Starmer's Government, local New Labour has since put previous climate policies on their rear-most burner.
The leader offers little bread but lots of circuses.
The most recent evidence for this, is the leadership releasing from the Cabinet the previous Cabinet Member for Transport, Environment and Climate Action.
At least Mike Hakata understood the issues.
Starmer's Government has truly bungled climate. One of the most glaring ineptitudes has been their blowing hot-and-cold on the date of phase-out of new fossil-fuel burners. Which year is it now?
Even the Conservative's Boris Johnson had a better record on climate!
Other Parties' attitude ranges from slashing or downplaying climate policies (Starmer-New-Labour) through to just short of dismissing the subject as a Chinese Hoax (i.e. the Reform Party).
More facts from Haringey Green website today 2 February 2026. It states:
~ "We are currently focused on the May 2026 local elections"
~ "where we plan to field candidates in all 21 Haringey electoral wards"
The Green Party states its belief that they "can elect a significant number of Green councillors to finally hold the Labour-run council to account."
Another fact, of course is that for some years no other Party or selection of Parties has held Labour to account. That would be healthy for our local democracy. It may even be a wake-up call for the LibDems as they also have been looking lacklustre for quite a while.
If the Greens can field at least one candidate in every ward - as they hope - it's possible that many residents would give that candidate a look and even a vote.
Personally, I would.
From what I remember, 2035 was a year Boris apparently plucked out of the air rather than being of any scientific grounding. Heat pumps are not practical in many circumstances (although technology can change with this), and where replacing a conventional boiler the entire property has to be re-plumbed. Not wanting to live in a building site for weeks if we have to replace our boiler I'm glad (like many) that the deadline has been scrapped.
Martin, as I said above, no other Party has held Labour properly to account.
I won't pretend to expertise about heat pumps. But I am confident about climate change. Clive Carter's label of Keir Starmer as a Climate bungler is not only accurate but may come to be seen as one reason why many socialists have added their additional support to the Green Party.
Reading through Haringey Green Party webpages - more facts - I was pleased to see several adopted candidates describe themselves as Green Socialists. In May when I come to vote in Tottenham Hale ward, that is a combination I'll be looking for. You may want to keep your own eye on the changing list of confirmed Green Party candidates.
In May I will also be on the lookout for candidates who oppose genocide - the crime of crimes.
I do realise that many Labour members have felt they needed to hide their dislike of Keir Starmer and his allies who have partly enabled Genocide in Gaza. Plus the expulsion of Labour Party members for expressing opposition to the Israeli government's Genocide and Apartheid policies.
Martin, as for the cut-off date, I fear you may be confusing cars with boilers. These items both have roles to play in reducing emissions, but when I wrote, the date of phase-out of new fossil-fuel burners, was referring to vehicles. Sorry if this was not clear.
Business needs predictability.
And the UK car industry needs consistent Government industrial policy. Despite last year showing the smallest UK car production since 1952, car making remain an important industry. Large numbers of jobs, profits and huge capital expenditure are at stake.
Starmer's Government is little better than Sunak's.
I invite you read up on what the Chair & MD of Ford UK (Lisa Brankin) said when reacting to government flip-flops on the 2030 deadline. One could only sympathise with a big car maker, currently in a difficult transition away from fossil fuel burners, in relation to governments that don't seem to know where they're is going.
Time is running out.
New Labour’s election manifesto pledge was to restore the earlier deadline.
PM Sunak had slammed emission policy into Reverse. I remember that, after a lot of handwringing, Starmer finally did select Drive, but damage had been done. That period of unnecessary indecision affects reputation for judgement and credibility.
It was less of another PM U-turn and more of Steer Calmer doing doughnuts, burn-outs or practicising handbrake-turns: take your pick!
I am sorry Alan. An innocent mistake which you will see I have corrected. Please be assured that it was a memory lapse rather than a deliberate attempt to dis-inform the electorate as part of an orchestrated campaign with Kremlin backing.
Of course I accept your apology Brian.
The main reason I decided to begin a new discussion thread is because your previous thread is very lengthy and - in my view - had begun to meander all over the place.
Now is only a few weeks before an important local election and I think there needs to be a sharper focus.
We've also got some new important stuff to discuss and decide. Including not just us locals. The honest Labour Party high-ups are quite rightly, white and red with anger and shame over Epstein and Mandelson. And two other parties are not offering the usual dull processed alternatives. One option is Green, radical and hopeful. Another is proto-fascist, destructive and terrifying.
I was personally feeling a teensy bit frustrated. If across much of the world God arranges for people - including website members, to have mobile phones with cameras, she probably wants us to take photos illustrating how we can work together with our neighbours and our Local Council to practically beautify all our areas. (Not just boast about the view across a footbridge towards Crouch End.)
Or have someone take a photo of bags waiting to move from a sliver of Hackney and blaming Tottenham.
