Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I don’t agree with the current system that councils use for arrears, and more can be done towards communicating with residents to resolve debt.

Matthew Cuthbert, can you please post here and explain more.

Could you also post something which gives elected councillors some detail about what you personally are doing to help resolve debt. Or should I assume that you have already written to councillors?

Thanks, Alan Stanton

I have witnessed the process. It’s good to know that we can talk to our ward councillors, and if there was a residents case for managing debt, I am happy to refer as always. I just wanted to flag how residents can find themselves, when it gets to taking vehicles or threatening to do so, or revisit at 6AM, it’s a bit like ICE in our backyard. I think councils across the land need to consider improving communication/ opportunities and availability for frontline services remotely and over the counter.

I know a draconian, reactionary view of how services should be met, and equally those who are more empathetic about resolution, the latter is more the norm thankfully amongst our ward councillors. If there is discussion or further sharing of experience, then there is some forum to know you’re not alone by offering some suggestions, solutions & shared experience. That officers are bound by acceptable behaviour as well as commendation of officials and helpful councillors. It’s not a specific to our council, but councils that may be further removed institutionally from you or me and that disconnect needs redress.  We have principles and ideals, but what makes us human is a duty of care, this should just be a reminder in my view.  I’m glad you’re in the picture, not unlike me just better read, more aware and wiser. I’m still in my apprenticeship.
