Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Around 3am this morning, a gang of 5 or 6 hooded youths set up a road block in Woodlands Park Rd, using an orange road-works fence (which they must have dragged some distance) across the width restriction. This forced traffic in both directions through the other side of the gate. As a mini cab approached, they threw a wheelie bin into the road, stopping the car, which they then surrounded, trying to drag the driver and passenger out of the car. The cabbie had the presence of mind to put the car in reverse in an attempt to escape. Unfortunately, he reversed into our car. At this point, when our car alarm sounded, they ran off. The police came very quickly, though the youths had long gone, pronouncing it a 'first'.

Apparently, such gangs have been targetting motorcyclists in West Green Rd, but apparently they've moved on to cars. Please beware if you're out in the small hours.

In South Africa, one response to carjacking was the Blaster (flamethrower).
Hm. Interesting place, SA.
Oh. My. God. What kind of a mind comes up with that? Surely more traumatic than having your car stolen. Would have left one helluva mess in my front garden too.

Have since discovered that our car is undriveable.
Trigger it from a sensor on your windscreen and you'll never get another parking ticket :-)
I'M not convinced that even Haringey's tax collectors Parking Wardens deserve this. Once blasted they might not be able to issue another penalty enforcement notice. I believe the Blaster is activated by a foot switch: I would worry about accidental activation.
Sorry to hear cookingmama hopefully you can get your car sorted and hopefully the Police can catch them before they try again.

This may sound stupid but if the cabbie decided to run them over would he be in trouble?
Thanks for the sympathy. It's all proving a right pain - I've had to hire a car because ours hasn't been assessed yet.

In this case, he couldn't run them over as they'd blocked his way forward, but I suppose if one of them had fallen under the car as he was reversing it he might have been in some trouble.

Annoyingly, the police didn't remove the barrier they used, but it was gone this morning, removed overnight I think. Look out for them if you see one lying about on it's own.
My daughter and I live in the 'Gardens' just off Green Lanes. Two weeks ago she arrived home minutes before 03.00 and before she got out of the car decided to have a cigarette and send her friend a text message. While in the prossess of doing this she noticed a group of about six or seven youths walking up the middle of the road. They stopped a little from the car and she was aware of one boy walk over towards her - she thought he was going to ask for a cigarette. He then thrust his hand through the partially open window - she thought at first he was trying to take her phone - and grabbed the car keys. Another got in the passengers side while she jumped out and started screaming (I'm now glad she has the loudest voice on earth)! When they saw my lights come on and some other people coming down the road they ran off. The police did come quite quickly and drove my daughter around the streets but of course they will have scattered and were long gone.
Was it the night of the sixth?
