Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Good morning

This is for all of you who travelled through Finsbury Park Tube station this morning and experienced the one way system. This was put in place in advance of reburbishments to the stairs in about a month's time, and allowed LU staff and Police to plan and react to crowd control measures.

I would like your feedback on how it worked (or didn't work) and any suggestions you have for improvements.

I get off the tube at Finsbury Park at around 8.45. The one obvious weirdness to me was that people were being directed to the right. Most people automatically keep left, always I walk up the left hand starir and in fact get a bit miffed at people coming down that side (at that time there's more coming onto the platform than leaving, so there is always some idiot trying to save time down the emptier stairs and having to push people aside.)

It was very difficult to cross the stream of people at the bottom of the stairs, in that small area getting onto the platforms for both lines. It's always difficult, today I had to get out both elbows and barge through. I dont know how someone more frail or shorter would manage it. It feels more risky than a similar manoever in a car at failed traffic lights. If a way can be found to sort this out I would be very grateful. More stairs?
Thanks Pamish

We struggled to find a route through the station where there were no crossovers. As you say, the one at the bottom of the stairs is always busy, and with everyone having to use the same staircase it is of course going to be more crowded.

I'm hoping that once the stairs are closed it will only take a couple of days for most people to find their way through the station during the morning peak (I don't mean it will take 2 days to catch a train). Most passengers are regulars at this time of day and will hopefully adapt well to it for the short time that it takes to refurbish the stairs.
it was ok but a big hold up as people waited to oyster in - is there going to be at least one addtional oyster reader at the mains entrance, or further down the tunnels?
Thanks Anna

That is a really good point that I don't think has been picked up on yet; I will pass it on to LU management for their consideration.
Further to Anna's point above, I have raised the issue with LU management and they are, unfortunately, not able to provide further Oyster readers during the closure. To get around this, the member of staff at the top of the tunnel will be directing people to also use the second Oyster reader further down the tunnel.
Hello again.

Once more you may have been subjected to the one-way system at Finsbury Park this morning. Please can you let me know of any issues you had and any ideas you have for improvements.

Many thanks

Matthew
