Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Sadly, a beautiful old tree came down at the end of Sydney Road in the storms of February 18th. Because it was blocking the street, the council sent someone to clear it away within 24 hours. They cordoned off the hole, so are clearly well aware of the issue. Well done! Anything that impacts the smooth flow of traffic through the borough is dealt with immediately, it seems. But the hole in the pavement has remained untouched for nearly seven months now. It's usually full of rubbish and, as you can see, someone helpfully dumped a chair in the hole about six weeks ago. I raised the issue using the reporting function on the council website: its status is "In progress" and I've emailed my local councillor twice and am still awaiting response. Is it me, or is seven months a bit too long to await repair? It seems an incredibly long time to me. In a linked musing, I recently spent a week in Amsterdam, a city with far, far less wealth than London, and the difference is stark: clean, well maintained streets with virtually no rubbish anywhere and nearly all in excellent condition. Returning to Turnpike Lane, it felt grotty, dirty and unloved. It can be done. It really can.

You might find that adding and 'opoulous' to the end of your surname elicits a more favourable response from that particular councillor.

Too many people voted for the Lib Dems on that street...

How are you meant to get a wheelchair by this?
