Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

My grandma was a member of Harringay Dramatic Society in the 1930s until around the 50s. It no longer exists, so I can't find any information about it online, so I was hoping someone here might remember it, as she's no longer around to ask. In particular I'd like to know when it disbanded, where they rehearsed and performed (I'm from outside the area, so I don't know if there's a likely theatre they'd have used), and what shows they performed in these decades. I'd also be interested in photos or stories from people or relations who were a part of it.

Thanks!

Probably the Allison Hall - now demolished  - a clip about the Dramatic Society using the hall in the 1960s.The Allison Hall was behind the church that now stands on Green Lanes on the corner of Allison Road.

There's mention of a Hornsey Journal write-up about a 1938 production by the society in The Journal - Institute of Journalists, Volumes 26–27, p30

You could track down that journal and you could also arrange to visit the Hornsey Historical Society to look through their copies of the Hornsey Journal. Nothing about the society shows in their catalogue, but only sporadic articles in the Journal get recorded there. There is no full index of it. The only way is to  find things in it is to visit and go through each weekly copy. It's worth contacting the society anyway, They may have something not catalogued that they can share with you.

There's also this record at the London Metropolitan Archives. Not sure of the date or even if it's the right society.

Thank you for your quick and in depth reply, I appreciate it. I'll look into the Hornsey Journal, thanks for the pointers.
