Epidemic of car break-ins on the Ladder and beyond…
if you don’t already know thieves are using sophisticated scammers to open cars by breaching their remote locking system. Drivers arrive, discover items missing and because there’s no evidence of a break-in, assume they must have forgotten to lock their vehicle. As sometimes happens. Thefts occur in the small hours of the night and are persistent. My neighbour had his car “broken into” three times. The Met police are very concerned about this. Where credit cards have been stolen they investigate through CCTV where they have been used. Advice is leave no valuables, dash cams, sat navs etc, and open all compartments to show they’re empty.

Isn't most of the breaching done by accessing the owners' key fob often left hanging nearby in the house?
Unless what's Alan is reporting are direct breaches of security without accessing key fobs, it's still worth making the small investment in faraday pouch which blocks signals from the key whilst it's hanging in the house.
I think it's also worth being clear that this 'epidemic' is nationwide. It's far from being a problem that is peculiar to the Ladder.

I agree with Hugh. I bought a Faraday pouch online and always put my key fob in it. The one night I forgot, the car was opened and everything thrown around but there was nothing worth stealing (even my 80s CDs!). It did make me very aware that people are roaming the streets at night presumably trying every car, so I am extra vigilant now. We are not on the Ladder!

Our car was stolen in December 2020, the thieves just walked up to our car with a devise opened the door tricked the car with the fob booster and drove it away all in 1 minute. The device the thieves used boosted the signal from our fob inside our house, not just hanging in the hall, it was in the back of the house.
We have replaced the car ( which was difficult over various lock downs) but we requested that the new car fob was turned off. You can ask your dealer to do this. Concerning the faraday pouch, anyone with a fob entry car system is vulnerable and you should store their fob key in a faraday pouch or metal box to stop the signal being transmitted and boosted by thieves to break into your car or rob it. Its shocking the car industry promotes all sorts of security and safety measures in vehicles but fob car entry systems are like leaving the car door open and the keys in the ignition. Again anyone with a fob car key entry system you must place the fob in a faraday pouch or metal tin in your house, You have been warned.
There are examples that the signal can also be boosted when your in a car park at the supermarket!
Some insurance companies are now providing Faraday pouches to car owners for free. The default is though if you don't use it and your car gets stolen you cant claim on your insurance policy. Pouches are about £12 so it is a no brainer people. This is a national and international car scandal. Only when it happens to you do you realise how pathetic the car industry is with dealing with this issue.
