Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Went to Edmonton via White Hart lane ,

Junction with Perth Road was real deep plus several other parts of road

Anyone aware of Borough Drains are being cleared ?

Especially as more storm are due 

Also aware my own road had a lot of surface water. Which took ages to go down drains

James, I guess in some ways we're all on the same 'quest'. And I'm certainly not criticising what you suggest.  Instead reflecting  on it. Because these issues have fascinated me over many years in the service jobs I had.

And more widely, as we see all the time on the pages of HoL. How do people get a good product at a fair price? Get trustworthy advice? A speedy efficient repair? Avoid getting cheated?

If it's a state bureaucracy how can it be fair to everyone who must use it and treat them with efficiency, respect, truthfulness, sensitivity and other qualities which I assume we would wish for ourselves and our families.
Maybe by having checks and balances from e,g. a Law Centre? The Citizens' Advice Bureau? The Ombudsman? Formal Complaints Procedures?
(Anyone remember the inspiring Haringey resident Gwen James and Voice of the Child in Care?) 

Or maybe some people prefer an anonymous service?  Say, some tasty food prepared in a shed with no windows who-knows-where-who-knows-who? Biked to our homes by someone we hardly glance at, who takes the cash with a bare minimum of human contact.
Or less than that; machines do it all? 

In a similar way, stuff cuts - pretend efficiency savings - send Council jobs who-knows-where. Obeying the same iron rules of the market. Press 1-2-32-Give up?

And then something goes wrong and Haringey Automated Listing (HAL) doesn't work. 
"HAL can you fix my house, please."
"I'm sorry James, I can't do that."

You found a fair-minded sympathetic efficient human person to sort it out. Hopefully they are members of a team which has some influence on the overall working of the organisation. So it can repair not just what went wrong but any systemic reasons why it went wrong.    Perhaps.

I notice that the next road off White Hart Lane after Perth Road is called Rivulet Road - maybe there's a clue in the name!

Thank you for sending the details of “Haringey Online”. Obviously, I wasn’t aware of this online forum but good thing I was able to get in and have reviewed some of the comments.

It seems that in the past people have been let down. However, I can assure you that this is not the case anymore as have some recent restructuring within our team and I am sure if the affected residents can contact our Frontline in the first instance for it to be logged correctly for a response to be provided in timely manner.

Not everyone may know that on occasions the drain system delivers water as well as draining it away.
 
Sometimes drains are blocked with waste of some kind. But heavy rain may mean they're simply blocked with water - in other words the volume and flow of water at any single time fills the drainage system. So water from higher up the system will overflow the drains and forms pools.

Gunge Detection

Heavy rain is Mother Nature's elegant method of telling inefficient or cash-starved local councils the location of blocked drain gullies.
        Mother Nature often provides a free supply of improvised tools for locating a blocked gully without soaking your shoes, feet or sleeves.

A suitable fallen branch or stick is often available under nearby trees. If the water is too dirty to spot the gullies, drag the branch or stick along the pooled water to detect them. If water pooling is caused by a gunge-filled gully it may be too choked-up to wiggle and get water flowing. even slowly.
       In that case, temporarily "plant" the stick in the gunge as a handy marker. Take a photo and email it to Haringey's staff with the report of the blocked gully. (Retrieve the branch or stick. It may be useful if several nearby drain gullies are also blocked. (Example below.  I've arrowed in blue a thin "planted branch".)

Seem to remember there was a issue with White Hart Leisure Car Park flooding and water flooding the road in the past. Also notice that the tarmac is rather low and pushed,  due to constant heavy traffic flow

Not forgetting all those sweet wrappers being dropped daily as they leave school

As do remember when there was letter bins by junctions / Bus Stops etc

Bob, I used to be a keen supporter of having more street litter bins.

Until I realised they were frequently "read" as if giving permission to leave waste alongside them.

Remember my days in Finsbury Park

When Pak had many

When used to catch people walking through park and dumping their household waste in Litter Bins

Some used to drive in and Dumping in Skips when We had events in Park

Also when working for Cleansing and monitoring Contractors,  used to catch many dumping carrier bags in Waste Bins and trade Containers

Sure many was removed and not replaced at time of London Bombing issues

Also aware that current Contractors has two Shift , morning and afternoon, 7 days a week clearing current rubbish bins. Also collecting street sweepers

When moved onto Refuse Enforcement, the crews used to Radio us when they found evidence of dumping.

Also aware that Veolia does not have inspectors on the Road. So not always aware of what crews are missing
