Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Are all the roads on the ladder getting the UCKG publications or have I been singled out for this treat? I'm on Burgoyne.

Got a ten page tabloid newspaper (City News) last week and today the February edition of a 31 page full colour magazine (FiAction). Can't be cheap printing those, let alone distribution costs.

You might have to look closely - the UCKG bit is rather hidden away on the cover although it become clear very quickly should you read the articles.

I HOLD no brief for UCKG but it's a little more honest than another unsolicited magazine the comes around regularly.

The other magazine is about the same length as FIAction and also printed expensively in full colour. And as for the distribution costs, the other proselytizing paper blankets the entire Borough. Like UCKG, the other's editorial slant is hidden away (its actually the council majority group), but also like UCKG, it quickly becomes clear should you read the articles (NB required reading age = 10).

UCKG magazine might be a waste of paper, but at least we don't pay for it, unlike the other one. What was it's name now?

.
Fair point, UCKG can spend their own money on whatever they want. They must have a lot of it though if these are being distributed widely.

Much like political propaganda, I am doubtful if the expensive magazine really make much of a difference and boost their attendance/cashflow. Surely the vast majority are just put straight in the recycling.
UCKG were present over christmas across central london including inside tube stations collecting donations, in my view the purpose of the charity was not made remotely clear to donors - they said something about "needy children".
UCKG's proselytizing literature represents expenditure that is no better or worse than any commercial advertiser forcing unsolicited material through your door. What should concern residents of Haringey is that the local authority is spending much larger amounts of money than UCKG, in a similar propagandist way ... and its your money!

I agree that both kinds of expensive magazines make little difference and are put straight in the recycling. Once again, one PR puff-piece is financed privately and the other PR puff-piece is paid for from our taxes.

Agree with Nigel about the need to be upfront about editorial ownership. Who lies behind these publications? The Borough's magazine makes a pretence that it is purely factual, neutral and objective. If it must continue to be pushed out once a month, at 32 full colour pages, then at least they should make it clear up-front that it is an advertisement for the council Majority Group. Let's have some honesty.

.
Here, here.

Better still, don't publish it at all and save a few trees (cue angry tirade about it being printed on recycled paper...)
The problem I have with these little publications is that they don't declare up-front that they are an "advertisement" for UKCG. If Tesco were to put together a newspaper essentially advertising their services they would have to make it clear, probably at the top of each page.
