Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Does anyone have a spare wire coat hanger they're willing to swap for a couple of non-wire ones? My toilet sink is a bit blocked so I'd like to try using a coat hanger before calling someone.

Thanks

Hi,

You might have more luck with something like this from Homebase if the blockage is past the u-bend as a coat hanger may not be bendy enough. We’ve got one that is fine for minor blockages before you resort to chemicals. Cheaper than a plumber although of course not as cost-effective as a free hanger if you do manage to get it to work! Good luck either way.

Tried a big rubber plunger?

I got one but it was too big for my sink...

Thank though.

I looked in Homebase but they didn't have it.

B&Q tomorrow if the coat hanger doesn't work! Thank you.

I assume you've tried unscrewing the U-bend under the sink, to see if the blockage is there? And if you are in a house, it's worth checking if the drain outside is blocked with leaves or something, as this can back up in to the sink.

Lynbo on GL has plumbing supplies, so might have what you want.

Hope you managed to clear it. I used a length of plastic-covered wire (from my  garden odds and ends box)  on a minor blockage, it's more flexible than a coat hanger but thicker than florists wire. I've got one of those snake things but it's too big to go down a small plughole.

And no, I didn't attempt to unscrew the bend, I can barely manage to open a bleach bottle!

Have you tried a large plunger to unblock it?
Have you tried a large plunger to unblock it, or a "plumber's spring"?
