Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
suffering from bus rage!!!
Hi All
Am not generally a moaner but need to get this one off my chest.
I regularly use the 144,231,217 and 444 bus services going up to the Roundway, I am totally appalled at the behaviour of some of my fellow travellers - and no I am not just talking about young people, all too often the queue for these buses at Turnpike lane turns into a scrum as people push their way onto buses instead of queuing up to get on - twice I have acted as a human shield to make sure that two elderly ladies were not squashed in the rush. I am a regular bus user all over London and I am going to be honest and say that some - not all users of these services are without doubt the rudest and most ignorant people I have ever encountered. I have pretty much given up using the bus service as I have also been pushed and shoved out of the way by people - they even do it as you are getting on the bus, I have had a go a few times and asked people to stand up to give others less able to stand their seats - This does not seem to go down well - clearly they would much rather see someone older or a pregnant woman stand whilst they sit. Or you end up in a situation where everyone stands downstairs blocking the entrance and exit simply becasue they can't be bothered to walk upstairs meaning the bus leaves half full.
this leads me on to my second point - sorry its a long rant this one! Clearly if you go to Turnpike lane and look at this bus stop at anytime of the day it is the busiest, yet there are no where near enough buses - if you are daft enough ot even waste your time waiting for one of these buses to turn up between 7:45am and 9am you have next to no chance of getting on one, I don't understand why there are not more buses laid on, even judt at peak times, it would make life a lot easier for everyone and perhaps stop the constant barging and poor behaviour.
Right ok rant over - but seriously am I the only one that has noticed this!!!

Add to this the idiots who pile on to tube trains while people are still trying to get off. Being a biggish chap, I trample all over them and rather relish the indignant protests. A bit of Mozart at Turnpike Lane turns me back into my normal mild-mannered self.

I've frequently found that simply getting on the next bus and saying "I've come off that bus" plus waving in the general direction of the defunct conveyance is enough for the driver to wave me on. No continuation ticket needed.
I haven't ever been inspected while doing this, so no idea if I would have explaining to do to the ticket stasi.

As a user of the 141 bus (getting on at Manor House) there are time when it is difficult to get on at this stop.
As previous messages, I amazed that there are not more buses operating at peak times - don't get me started about trying to get on a return bus.
Does anyone know - How to campaign for more 141 buses at peak times?
Would love to see if we can do something positive for all fellow bus travellers.....

Guys I totally empathise with you about 141 - luckily if I have to get this now I pick it up at Wood Green so it is fairly empty but I used to pick it up much further down the line and it is a total nightmare!! I think we need to start an awareness campaign called stop blocking the downstairs and move upstairs, no upstairs not on the stairs!!!!!!
I am sure if there were more buses during peak times then people would be inclined to behave like a human rather than an animal.

I actually lived off Southgate road for ages and yes there is always a very genteel and orderly queue of people waiting at the bus stop - no-one pushes or barges their way on and people patiently wait for the next bus. If I had to be honest I would say that the area is very middle class - lots of city types and young profesionals so possibly this may play a part, however I don't think that socio-economics should be blamed soley for the some of the behaviour the bahaviour that a lot of us have seen - manners and some respect for your fellow travellers don't cost anything - and as I said earlier most of the offenders that I have seen are adults so I can't even claim it's lack of standards with a younger generation.

Alan sorry if that's how my post came across - no offence was intended - it is an interesting point I do quite a lot of work on social behaviour for my job so am very interested in this area. Interesting the behaviour observed at Southgate Road does not apply ever at the other end on Essex Road - still a bit of scrum although nowhere near as bad as the stuff I see now in Harringey - perhaps Southgate Road bus users are an anomaly. Or perhaps this is more about the general behaviour of Londoners - visitors often remark on how rude we all are
It would be interesting to see if anyone has done any research in this area
