Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Following his failure to be reselected by the St Ann's Labour party Cllr Haley this afternoon announced his decision to cross the floor and join the Lib Dems.

I imagine that we can therefore expect imminently an announcement that he'll be standing with a different shirt on at the next elections.

I've been told that there's been intense discussion between the centre and the local party about this move.

Noticing that the local wires seem to be developing a bit of a back-story here I just now Googled Brian Haley and was surprised to come up with this information:

He is currently developing his next project; The Brian Haley show. A 'one man show with a cast of thousands'. Says Brian, "This time, it's going to be huge. There will be girls, a big band and lots of fire. You don't want to miss it".

See the source here.

And on a Q&A site, in response to the question, "Where has Brian worked", we're told:

...worked as a standup comedian; appeared in television commercial for Miller Lite beer. Previously worked as a ranch hand, logger, and hay buck.

A more varied talent than any of us knew it seems.

And on the Operation Black Vote site Cllr Haley is quoted as saying:

I'm also developing a brand new waste vehicle for London, this vehicle will revolutionise how waste is collected.

Hmm, revolutionary ways of collecting the waste....
Three years ago Brian joined forces with us in our campaign to save the X-ray department at St. Ann’s Hospital. I quickly formed the view that he was a dedicated public servant who ought ideally to be part of the Liberal Democrat group. Throughout many discussions in the years which have followed, I have continued to be of this view. In private he has impressed me with his grasp of detail in the many areas in which he works. In public, he has been an able debater well able to fight his corner.
In Brian, Labour has lost its best asset. I am very glad that he has decided that his true home is with us.

Despite the various ways some cheapskate satirists may have portrayed Brian in the past couple of years, I've always found him very promising.
If the Lib Dems get him to sign a binding prenuptial agreement, then run him in Harringay Ward and let him keep his portfolio, I'm sure we'll do our best to keep him to all his Wightman Road promises for the next four years or so..
He's always been promising. That's what he's known for - promising.
I think that may be what I meant, Julie.
He's apparently going to be imposed on Harringay ward as a Lib Dem candidate. Whether he's elected is another question. That depends on you folks over the way from us. We've done our bit for improvement. Your loss is our gain!
I haven't heard Gina, Jon and Nora whooping in delight yet!
Gosh, how interesting. All the things we're now learning about Cllr Haley we never knew before, Such as how he spent his time and who he talked to. Though I do wonder if there aren't identical Haley twins. Because I simply can't remember the one you describe, David.
Come on, David. You can do better than that.

Once more, with feeling....
David - I do think you should keep your comments at least within the realms of reality...

He got deselected democratically by his local party and because of this he's jumped ship to anyone else who would take him. The Tories couldn't give him a deal sweet enough for his liking (see Richard Merrin's blog http://new.richardmerrin.com/2010/01/shock-hardly/) so he didn't join them. Instead he's joined the Lib Dems. Can you shed any light on this? What's next in his Lib Dem career? Will he be fighting a local council seat for the Lib Dems? Or maybe he's been offered a Parliamentary seat? Were you kept in the loop when Lib Dem HQ decided to accept him?? Given how critical you’ve been of him in the past, this must have been a bitter pill to swallow.

The pathetic way he seems to have auctioned his allegiances shows him up as unprincipled and foolish. As do the actions of those who have accepted him. Real principles can't be bought and sold.

Hurricane Haley is gonna whip through Tottenham and suck up those floating voters and give 'em hope. Hell, there's even a musician out there singing for him.

As another 'Hurricane Haley' says out there on the net;

As Brian said in the opening of the £5 million Mary Neuner Road;

"Mary Neuner Road will help stem congestion by taking some of the traffic off residential roads like Hornsey Park Road."

And here is that very road;
