Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Information from Sgt. Tim Hannah (St Ann's Ward Safer Neighbourhoods Team) via Gardens Residents about a burglary last night in Rutland Gardens:

The victim burgled was an 86 year old woman. The robber pretended to be from Thames Water and gained access to the property by claiming there was a leak and needed the occupier to run taps upstairs. While she did this, the burglar robbed the house. £10,000 was stolen in cash from the victim's house.

Description of burglar:-
A white male-
Skinny
Brown Hair
Approx. 18 - 25 years ol

Please warn your neighbours that they should not allow anyone in their house without proper ID.

Seems rather a lot of cash to have in ones house, Is the decimal point in the correct place ?
That's what came in to me. You could always double-check directly with Sgt Hannah - contacts will be on our policing page. Let us know what he says. [And remember under the Policing Pledge, you should have a response within 24 hours :o) ]
This is especially cunning as Thames Water really are going around the area at the moment to try to find the source of some pollution in Stonebridge. And they do ask you to run taps/flush the loo.

So make sure you check those ID cards carefully!
Likelyhood is that Thames Water visited the perpetrator to request that he did just that and he took advantage of the situation by impersonating them - maybe they should distribute the description around the Thames Water staff that have been canvassing the area.
