Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Poor old Zena Brabazon. She seems to have some difficulty staying inline with the autocratic tendencies of Joe Ejiofor.

This most recent sacking comes after Cllr Ejiofor announced that he was 'postponing' the Labour Group elections and Council AGM by a year. Though, I'm not sure his latest move is related to that. Expect to see him riding topless on a recently wrangled mustang in the next Haringey People.

Lol, what can you expect, what a mess.

Vote them all out at the next round and let's get back to having some decent councillors (and council leaders).

That sucks, Zena is one of the good ones.

... Haringey had little choice after the damning comments from the judge in the high court...

The OnLondon website also has a statement from Zena Brabazon.  (Who not everyone will know is my wife.) Zena took over the post as "cabinet" member for Children and Young People in May 2019.

Her initial public statement is below.
"I very much enjoyed my time as Cabinet Member for Children and Young People. I am proud of the service and the huge improvements that have been achieved, particularly in the field of safeguarding, children’s social care and relationships with our schools. Our responses to all the criticisms in the November 2018 Ofsted inspection report have been acknowledged to be good, and we were praised by Ofsted in their 2019 focus visit. There will never be a time when we do not live in the sad shadow of our past failings but the service has a promising future and is stable and well led, against the odds. We have attracted good staff and rooted out some difficult problems.
"
Cllr Ejiofor has made comments in the press which do need to be challenged. However Children’s Services must be above politics. The portfolio is complex and our duties to children and families will always be more important than any political career. I will always put the needs of children first. Families in difficulty are entitled to confidentiality and privacy. These requirements cannot be outweighed by political considerations. Demands for information cannot always be met."

I am immensely sorry to be leaving at a time when relationships were building. Governors, headteachers, school staff and parents are working together to meet the challenges of the pandemic. The local authority is improving its offer to schools and using resources to support schools as hubs in the community. Officers are collegiate and professional. Fellow councillors have been constructively engaged. I have made great friendships and will miss colleagues. I wish the service well."

If Haringey Council cannot get good results from its vital children's services, how bad must the other departments be?

Few departments are as important as this one and they still cannot get it right after 30 years of trying. 30 years of  batting away publicity about all the scandals that appear in the work of Haringey's Social Services.

Brabazon wielded power as the Deputy Leader of the Labour Group on Haringey and she still could not find or implement solutions to this scandal which was exposed in the High Court.

The "scandal" as you put it, was being tackled by the new Director of Children's Services appointed in 2018.

The "scandal" in the Disabled Children's Team was not being tackled by the new Director of Children's services. She is not new,  being in post for 2.5 years. ZERO Percent of respondents to a survey said they had enough support from Haringey during the pandemic. The failings raised by Justice Hayden are entrenched within the department. Changing a well-liked political lead will solve nothing. If Joe Ejifor wants to show decisive leadership he should call in an external task force.
