Sadly, I have been asked by St Ann's Safer Neighbourhoods Team to let you know that there was an alleged rape of a 14yr old girl on Thursday evening in Chestnuts Park.
The police press statement follows:
Police were called at 19:10hrs on Thursday, 5 December after a 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Chestnuts Park in Haringey.
The victim was allegedly approached by a man who tried to engage her in conversation before raping her.
The victim later alerted a family member who called police.
There have been no arrests. A crime scene is in place and enquiries continue.
If you were in or near Chestnuts Park around that time and think you may have witnessed anything, or saw anything you thought was suspicious, please report it to the police by calling 101, via online or at a police station.
If you have any concerns about the park safety, or anywhere else, you are welcome to contact the team sergeant, Tom Hassam (thomas.a.hassan@met.police.uk).
Thank you.

So very sorry to hear this. Hard to put into words how sorry I feel for the girl involved and her family.
Quite disturbing still, why the girl possibly lied about this.
I have been asked to change my earlier reply. I couldn't edit it so have deleted and reposted...:
This from Friends of Chestnuts:
"The police have informed us that no crime or incident took place in the park yesterday.
The park is no longer being treated as a crime scene.
If and when there is more information they will supply it."
