My car in the Gardens was recently vandalized and had the catalytic converter cut out of its exhaust. I know the police had warned our local residents association that it was a common threat, especially with Hondas and Toyotas. There is money to be made out of the precious metals in the converters. I don't know that one can do a lot about it, except perhaps try to park tight against the kerb on the side of the exhaust so it is not so easy for anyone to slide under the car with an angle-grinder.

Several more incidents reported on Bruce Grove Residents Facebook group.
Sorry to hear this happened to you. I have lamented frequently on HOL the theft of the cat on my Jazz three days before I traded it in, costing me 500 quid in scrap value.
Newer cars are slightly safer as the cat is generally inside the engine bay (according to this: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-49767195)
If you have speed cushions across the width of your road, you might be able to position your car over one of them when parking (this is certainly the case on Glenwood Road. Wasn't always possible, alas)
