Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

As a consequence of correspondence with David Lammy following the 'snowy' meeting in February, and with an eye on tomorrow's Area Assembly, I thought it interesting to observe substantial agreement between opinions expressed on HOL, the work being done by the Liberal Democrats and the position David Lammy takes in his letter to Claire Kober in response to my correspondence:

[extract from letter from David Lammy MP dated 13th July 2009]
'The details of the concerns are outlined in the attached letter so I will not repeat those details here, however I would like to highlight some of the matters raised and add my voice to those asking for these concerns to be addressed.

Wightman Rd is not included in the Ladder area's 20 mph zone

Traffic calming measures are needed in certain places along Wightman Rd, Alroy Rd and Endymion Rd

The pavements on Wightman Rd are in very poor condition
'

Given this consensus of common sense, it'll be interesting to see whether the Council, or particular members, are willing to isolate themselves by rejecting common sense and failing to propose funding for the sorts of changes that have been sought.

Very interesting. I wonder if this consensus is what has led to the traffic survey coming back onto the agenda (according to Haringey People no less)?
How does the consensus on making Wightman road 20mph sit with the concerns raised about congestion and traffic build-up in the area?

We cannot have our cake and eat it - the cars have to go somewhere, and there are only 2 roads leading north from Finsbury Park/Seven Sisters Road to Wood Green and points north. Green Lanes and Wightman Road.

Everyone who lives here knows it's usually pointless to drive down Green Lanes, and so we all use Wightman. Of course we'd still do that if the traffic was slow on Wightman - until/unless Wightman is made as bad as Green Lanes. Which I doubt is an outcome anyone round here would like to see.

So I for one oppose restricting Wightman to 20mph - it would simply be a case of beggar thy neighbour until and unless there's a genuine alternative proposed for where the traffic should go. (Incidently, this is already evidenced in the Gardens v Ladder debate in the 28th July Area Assembly)
