Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Take care when digging big holes in your garden

Last Saturday a residential building toppled over in Shanghai. Apparently, there was no issue with the building standards; this time the builders were lazy.

They were digging out under the block to build a car park and piled a huge mound of earth next to the building. By all accounts the earth should have been taken off-site, but that would have cost £1. So the decision was taken to keep it on site an re-use it for landscaping. Subsequently there was heavy rain and the weight caused the building to topple.

How would you feel living in one of the neighbouring blocks?

Hugh, I guess I'd feel like the character Bessie in Sean O' Casey's The Plough and the Stars: 'Yez are all rightly shanghaied now!'
