Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Your car ... scrap or buy newer? ... ULEZ to include Haringey from Oct 2021 ... daily charge £12.50

ULEZ Boundary Expansion

From October 2021 the ULEZ will expand to the North and South Circular Roads. All cars within the expanded zone will need to meet the ULEZ emissions standards or pay a daily charge of £12.50

Minimum emission standards

  • Petrol: Euro 4
  • Diesel: Euro 6

The ULEZ will be enforced based on the declared emissions of the vehicle rather than the age. However:

Petrol cars that meet the ULEZ standards are generally those registered with the DVLA after 2005, although cars that meet the standards have been available since 2001

Diesel cars that meet the standards are generally those registered with the DVLA after September 2015

Use our tool to check your vehicle.

None of these are really cheaper unless you only do short journeys. If you’re taking the car out of London for a weekend a few times a year you’re going to spend more. Daily rates for these companies are quite high and there are mileage overage charges so it adds up pretty quickly.

Once my car becomes nonviable due to some expensive mechanics issue or the ULEZ it will be a good option but until then keeping it running is probably cheaper and more convenient.

... wkd use ... check out SIXT. Always doing deals. Strees free re no maintenace concerns, dealing with that council re resident permit, all those extra taxes, rip off insurance etc. You hire, you give it back! And you get the very latest model cars ... and very economical too. Good on your wallet :)

My 2003 Volvo passes but my 1990 motorbike doesn't. No big deal. I can sell the bike to anyone outside the NCR. I think it unfair that minicabs are affected but old polluting black cabs are not.

I think it's pretty daft that motorbikes are included at all.  Motorbikes represent part of the solution not part of the problem in my book.  Black cabs are subject to their own separate scheme operated by tfl.  You already can't drive a black cab that's older than 8 years old, and all new cabs will shortly have to be zero rated.

Saw an electric black cab the other day ... cabs, buses, vans ... sick of breathing in their diesel fumes

I agree about motorbikes. The Motorcycle Action Group have been in discussions with the Mayor on this hoping he will still exempt them all....

But motorbikes are also going electric ... and there are some cool ones around

There are, but they are hugely expensive compared to the bikes that a lot of riders will be forced to get rid of. There are a few work arounds in that if you can get your manufacturer to provide a certificate of conformity of emissions, some pre Euro 3 bikes can be exempt. TFL are being obstructive on information on exemptions as ultimately this will hit them in the pocket. My Euro 3 bike was registered before 1st July 2007, and I've had to jump through hoops to get them to exempt it. Only a V5 scan has got them to accept it won't be charged.

Policy imprementation is often chaotic at first. Hopefully it's less frustrating going forward.

Except this isn't an "implementing policy at first" issue, I've been trying to get clear information from TFL for 4 years since this was first mooted, under Boris. I had an exemption via email back then, then my bike was added to their not exempt database. It's a poorly executed joke.

If I may say so, you were probably way ahead of them. By implementation I mean ‘going live’
