Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

As part of their annual carol service last week, the Gardens Residents Association unveiled a plaque in remembrance of Nilgun Canver.

A Mattison Road resident, Nilgun Canver was a long time councillor for St Ann's Ward. Both as a councillor and in her role as Cabinet Member for the Environment, Nilgun was a strong advocate for Harringay. She was also strongly attached to her ward and always ensured that it was well-served.

Nilgun was also a champion of the Harringay Festival and headed up the committee that organised it.

It is fitting and welcome to see Nilgun remembered.

Thanks for uploading this Hugh. It was a lovely evening with over 150 people attending the carols event, which had lots of family and friends coming together for the carols event as always. We dovetailed the carols & plaque unveiling together as it seemed appropriate to do so. We paraded down Doncaster Gardens from the Gardens Community Garden and along Stanhope Gardens to the specially planted tree at Stanhope / Essex Gardens and newly installed plaque that the GRA fundraised for. Alison - GRA Chair and Deputy Mayor Sheila Peacock said a few moving words, I read out a special poem that Karen ( my partner ) and I had written for the event. Lorna Reith ex Cllr and good friend of Nilgun said a few words too along with Shef ( GL Traders Assoc Chair). The plaque was unveiled by Alison - GRA Chair and Deputy Mayor Cllr Sheila Peacock.

A very fitting tribute to Nilgun who transformed the area where we 'live, work and play'.

Andy - Vice Chair GRA

I never met this Lady but it is really Lovely what you have done to remember her--she sounds like she was very Worthy of this.
