I imagine it's while Trump is relatively vulnerable - travelling between venues.
Flying in circles may be more fuel-efficient due to lift from the wings than hovering in one place.

Trump flew into Stansted on Thursday and - no doubt very much to the annoyance of their passengers - around a dozen arriving Ryan and Easyjet flights were put into stack for over half an hour, well away from the airport, presumably so that he could land and then get whisked by chopper to the Residence without any other aircraft around. So I imagine these Ospreys provide air cover and a mobile exclusion zone while the Prez is in flight to/from Blenheim and Windsor, which might explain why there are so many of them.

Thinking of those Ryanair passengers I'm reminded of a guy I know in LA who used to complain on FB when Obama came into town to do a Hollywood fundraiser, as he used to fave them seemingly every other month. The littlest thing can throw LA freeway traffic into total hell and this happened every time Obama turned up. I told him (this was 2016) he should vote for Trump as he doesn't do fundraisers and certainly will never come to Hollywood!
I wonder how they Ospreys are moved around for these presidental visits--back of a C-5 carrier?

Yes, they could well have arrived in a C5 or C41, but they might actually be based at RAF Mildenhall already; apparently there's a gaggle there that act as "support" for the 352nd Special Operations Wing, according to the BFBS website. It's responsible for "infiltration, extraction and resupply operations in hostile territories" - presumably the UK as seen through US eyes!

I thought Mildenhall was RAF & nearby Lakenheath was the American air base. What are they supposed to do though?
