Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Photo: @MPSHarringay Twitter account

After 31 years in the force, the last 25 of which have been in Harringay ward, Glyn Kelly is finally hanging up his truncheon.

It's been an amazing gift, and I'm sure quite a rare one in 2018,  to have had the continuity of a real beat bobby on our patch for the past quarter century. Added to that Glyn personally has been a real asset. He's taken the time to get to know his beat and he's been a reassuring, friendly and competent presence.

As far as HoL has been concerned, Glyn immediately understood the role that social media could play in local policing many years before the Met's decision makers. He bravely went out on an organisational limb and joined Harringay Online very early in its life. Until he was yanked off it by his bosses, he made great use of the site and his story was shared across the Metropolitan Police (I'm sure helping to shape their eventual arrival at the Social Media party).

So here's raising a virtual glass to our long-time Geordie beat bobby. Glyn, thanks for everything and I wish you all the best in your retirement.

I first met Glyn very soon after i moved into Haringey (lovely Burgoyne Road) as my car was stolen! i joined the wonderful Ladder Community Safety Partnership as a result and then saw and heard regular monthly crime reports from him there. Great bobby - thanks and all the very best for happy retirement. xGeraldine P.S.  fyi my car was found later in Manchester!!

Thank you Geraldine

Thank you OAE

Glyn, you thoroughly deserve to put your feet up now. But thanks so much for your impact in Harringay ward.

Thank you

I only recently had occasion to meet Glyn, despite living in this area for almost thirty years, but I've always known that he was around. Lovely chap, very reassuring and with extensive local knowledge - he will be hard to follow.

Thank you so much for the kind words Maddy

This is Glyn in my new position as a civilian. Sill Glyn as I always was of course. I`m not sure how to reply to these wonderful comments.

It`s a challenging time for me with very mixed emotions.

I would like to say thank you personally to everyone I`ve known over the years but that is unrealistic I know.

You would make me very happy though if you gave me the opportunity to.

I`m having a leaving drink, where else but Green Lanes The Salisbury PH on the 2nd of February 5pm onwards and I definitely don`t want to be lonely

Please join me if you can

Hugh I hope you`ll be at the Salisbury on Friday

I'd just like to add on here how much I have learned from Glyn in the year and a half I have been in Harringay, and how much I will miss his guidance and support going forward. PC Pete Cooper, PCSO Lisa Yianni and I will do our best to follow in Glyn's footsteps in his dedication to the people of Harringay and continue his hard work in making it a safer and more pleasant place to live and work.

The ward number remains the same, 07920233786, and you can still contact us on harringay.snt@met.police.uk. We'll still be posting on here as well.

I'll be at Glyn's leaving do on Friday and I look forward to seeing many of you there and joining you in wishing Glyn a long and happy retirement.

Best

PC Ruth Halkon

you will be better than me Ruth and I mean that

Some years back, after a spate of attacks on women, Glyn organised a well-attended self-defence course at the Kurdish community centre. Big shoes to fill... Thank you, Glyn. Enjoy your retirement
