Smithfield Refrigerator Works

There's a sign above the lane next to the Great Northern Railway Tavern but Google only throws up pictures: no details about who, what and when. Anybody know anything about the Smithfield Refrigerator works ?

All I can tell you is that the works was behind the pub in the 1930s and by the 1950s they had grown and were on the large site on the west side of Cross Lane, Smithfridge was presumably their trade name and I understand that suggestion they made ice or ice cream making equipment.

Before them came Jones & Willis.
