Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Has anyone had anything built using plywood? I am looking to have some built in wardrobes and while looking for ideas came across Uncommon Projects who specialize in Plywood, but they are expensive. Not sure if this is readily used by general carpenters?

If anyone has experience of, or if you know anyone who works with plywood I would be interested to hear.

Hi Jane,

What is your budget?

C

Jane, I believe Con was making you an honest offer here, so why not respond?

Sorry, I didn't read this as an offer. Reason I didn't mention budget is because I am interested firstly in supplier/fitter being available & to find someone that can meet requirements. Uncommon projects have a minimum of 6k for built in, so it would be fair to say this exceeds my budget!

I have commissioned someone to do some wardrobes for us in the same fashion. Seen their work in a frinds house and it is great. What they produce for us remains to be seen but they are very considerate and communicative so far - michael@5elementsltd.co.uk

Thanks Kotkas I will definitely drop them a line. I tried to get a quote from a carpenter recommended here but after 2 appointments missed decided to look elsewhere. So good comms is always first priority.

we are currently having all joinery in the house made out of plywood - general carpenters should be able to do it. for wardrobes/shelving/kitchen etc you can go with birch ply (what Uncomon Projects and most high-end plywood furniture makers use), or (somewhat cheaper) furniture-grade softwood ply such as spruce.

would you be able to share details of your carpenter? I am not in a real hurry - happy to wait for the right trades-person. I think ply looks great, probably need the high end product though.

Worth looking at their ply range if you are interested in ply.
Many weeks lead time if you want their manufacturing service but their ply is unique and they make ply up to 42 mm thick, 5m long by 2.3m!!!

Unfortunate I am too busy to take on any more work for several months yet, however if you can produce drawings of what you want and decide exacly what materials you want, DW timber can build you almost anything and deliver to site. Just bare in mind they are a manufacturer not designers.
All the best

I am going to need to the design element too, wouldn't be confident enough to produce own drawings but thanks for the information. I am happy to schedule work for a few months time, so long as I could get someone to look at, assess and design now.

We had a custom window bench and shelves done by Mark who lives on the ladder. Great work, great guy and good at thinking design too. Email me if you want details.
