After waiting four months for an announcement from Network Rail, I finally cracked and sent a 'Latest News' update to our webmaster to post on the BGORUG website along with details of replacement buses for this weekend: tinyurl.com/hjozow5 . Of course, within hours and before my update was posted, Network Rail issued a press statement on how they intend completing the electrification work. Continuous weekend closures and two more blockades is the answer! The work is planned to be finished in mid January and the new London Overground 4-car electric trains are expected to be in passenger service in the "spring".

BGORUG's latest Passenger Newsletter is now on-line with the latest news on Network Rail's new plan to finish the electrification work. If we're lucky we should have electric trains in passenger service by Easter next year!

For the weekend of Saturday 12 August and Sunday 13 August the work will include pile driving between Lancaster Road and Oakfield Road, N4. The hours of work will be from 7am to 7pm. If the work can't be completed it will be continued the following weekend 19 & 20 August. [information in a letter from Network Rail to Lineside Neighbours - Gospel Oak to Barking Electrification - embankment strengthening between Crouch Hill and Harringay Green Lanes] So there will be constant noise - bang, bang, bang - for up to twelve hours a day.
Why couldn't this work have been done on a weekday (when lots of people were out at work) when the line was shut for months? Why wait until the summer and do it over a weekend when residents might want to sit outside in their gardens or keep their windows open?
This whole project is a shambles.
Oh, and by the way Network Rail apologise for any disturbance caused.
The line is going to be closed again in September/October and in November/December/January (see our newsletter) and you may well ask why the embankment works could not be deferred until then. You may well ask but I doubt that you will get a reply!
