Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I had a smash up on my bike before Xmas, and I've been getting the tube to work for the last three months - yuck. But now my broken arm, and broken front wheel are fixed, the sun is shining and I'm back on my bike.
You'll recognize me as the guy going faster than you with a grin on my face!

Good luck - in my December crash, when I broke my arm, the impact cracked my helmet all down one side. I figure that would have been my skull.
In Tuesdays crash I landed on my face. The front rim of the helmet probably saved me from a broken nose and missing teeth. I see your point, but I wouldn't ride without one.
I've only had two crashes in ten years rolling in London, they just happened close together. I'm not some Captain Calamity disaster magnet!
:0 horrible! :( hope your bike gets well soon! (and your bruises too) Glad you weren't another fatality.

Getting hit by a car- terrifying!
sorry to hear of this accident after you were so happy to be back on your bike. Don't let it put you off. Try the River Lee when you can, it will restore your faith in cycling.
Sorry to hear about your accident again-I find my accidents always come in pairs,-certainly having execllent breaks, and expecting every car to hit me as it hasnt seen me, has spared me form many accidents
I am also with you on helmets-never go anywhere without it and cant understand why people dont do the same-bones will mend-heads dont-Im nursed I know

the one day I didnt wear one was 13 years ago where a car overtook me too close on seven sisters road-its wing mirror locked into my handlebars and pulled me on top of it-first I remembered was waking up being stretched into ambulance after sufferinbg a fracture skull-terrible,wouldnt want it on my worst enemy and have lasting damage as a result-My last accident about 2y ago a car suddenly pulled acrosss me,went straight over handle bars, bounced over car bonnet on my head, split my helmet-and i walked away very shaken but uninjured
Helmets save life what evr the evidence- i get really annoyed with the number of cyclists i see going along,no lights, dark clothers,no helmet, and headphones on-without a care in the world-Knowing they will be a statistic- there are so many crazy illegal drivers out there and also we all make mistakes even regular car drivers
I personally think basic cycle training should be compulsory_ got a lot from my day even after cycling 20years everyday
Good luck dan and hope things improve for you
Thanks for your concern everyone. I'm planning to do the River Lee as soon as I get a) my bike repaired and b) a fine day with no other commitments. Sounds like a smashing ride. Is it pretty flat and easy going? I'm trying to persuade my wife to do it, but she's not fond of hills.
Ta
River Lee is flat - occasional barier you have to stop for. Lots of pedestrians on a nice day.
Really sorry to hear about your accident Danzigger, what a terrible thing to happen. It wasn't that spot on 7 Sisters where there is a left turning into an estate, before Fins Park tube was it? My husband was saying that can be a really nasty section. I hate that road, luckily I don't have to use it.
Thanks Alison.
It was the corner of Seven Sisters and Wilberforce Road here I find that bus/cycle lanes can always be a bit risky: cars tend to swerve into them having only quickly checked for a bus. I've had near misses before, but this time didn't have a chance.
At least I reckon I've used up all my bad luck for a while!
WE always have to be lucky. THEY just have to be careless once.
Hope the cycling is safe for you!

I got a newsletter from Joanne.McCartney@london.gov.uk

She is the Assembly member for Enfield and Haringey / Greater London Authority.

It confirms funding is agreed for some work on Green Lanes for cycle safety, known as Link 83, to the tune of £100K to be done in 2009/10. The work will be between Turnpike Lane and the Manor House crossroads. I have looked up what I can for further information but its a bit vague. Maybe some better signage on the southbound bit uphill coming up to Manor House... mention of a couple of pinch spots near Wood Green... its a lot of money but I don't know how far it will go to help cyclists along Green Lanes.

Danzigger it sounds like there was no avoiding that motorist who may have thought he could shave a bit of time off his journey. Very selfish of it.

The attached document (Dec 08) only says that the monies for Link 83 are for a Study into resolution of this infrastructure barrier. (pg 11) Money for consultants?

Hey I'd be a great consultant! I've been cycling on Green Lanes most days for seven years. Except I don't understand what is meant by a 'resolution of this infrastructure barrier'

I'm back on my bike as of yesterday; no accidents so far. Thanks for your support and concern everyone, and let's be careful out there!
