The Localism Bill is intended to hand more power to local communities to get involved in how their local area develops and the planning decisions that are made by local authorities.
The London Assembly’s Planning and Housing Committee is now looking at the ways the planning system currently encourages people to get involved in shaping their neighbourhood, and how proposals to hand people more say in local policy making and development control will play out in the capital.
On Friday I was at an event at the funky Palsetra House on Blackfriars Road, looking at how technology can help in this. Technology will clearly have a role in particular for the majority of us who are very unlikely to ever attend a planning meeting of any sort. Websites like this will be part of it along with Facebook, I'm sure. I'm also keen on taking advantage of innovations like Stickyworld.
Here's a local example. The picture above is an artist's impression of what Haringey Heartlands will look like. It's likely to have a significant impact on Harringay. Were you satisfied with how you were involved? How might your involvement have been improved? The London Assembly now want to hear from all Londoners with any ideas about what might get you involved in planning discussions like this.
Find out more and learn how to submit your comments on the Assembly's website.
