In one riposte to
the Big Savings Question Lambeth Council today unveiled radical plans for a so-called John Lewis authority in which locals who help run services could qualify for a council tax rebate.
A key impetus to the new model was the prospect of swingeing funding cuts, said the council leader, Steve Reed, which left Lambeth – one of the UK's most deprived areas – facing unpalatable options including reduced services or council tax rises.
